Biography:
It all began in the early 90's when dance
music found Liam Taaffe. At home in Ireland with
his decks and record collection, Liam set down
the goal of delivering the sounds to the party
starved Irish public... lofty goal for 16, but
nothing short of paralysis could stop him. His
DJ career began at the Ross Night Club Drogheda,
playing the early styles of Progressive House
and Trance the likes Sasha and John Digweed championed.
Interest peaked quickly, and it wasn't long before
he was sought out directly. His popularity in
the North East, playing his diverse and unique
set, laid the ground work for his 1998 signing
to Pure Promotions (founded by Local club promoter
Dom Wilton and local DJ Keith Woodhouse). Shortly
after, Liam found himself DJing in nightclubs
all over Eastern Ireland supporting Irish DJ's
Podge, Dave McDonald, Liam Dollard and Ivor form
the Kitchen and on many occasions with Dean Sherry
from Mono. Not to be a one trick DJ, Liam was
studying Broadcasting and Journalism (BJS) at
Ballyfermot college where he learned the basics
of broadcast presenting and techniques.
PURE Promotions ended
in 1999, but it wasn't long until Kiss Night
Club Manager Alan Cahill approached Liam with
a residency for PASSION…within a year
he was supporting a host of International DJs.
Passion opened its doors in November 1999 and
Liam supported John Cecchini from Homelands.
John complimented Liam's set and skill, and
with these words of encouragement Liam went
on to support Judge Jules from BBC 1 on two
occasions, Col Hamilton also from Homelands,
John Kelly from Cream, John OO Fleming from
Reactivate, Rob Tissera, Chris and James (The
Gallery & Renaissance), Darren Pierce, Darren
Flynn and Jay Pidgeon from the Temple Theatre,
Mark Kavanagh and Alan Pullen from Baby Doll
records, Mr. Spring from 2FM.
In December 1999 Liam
formed his own dance Promotion Company called
"LIQUID PROMOTIONS". It was a major
success and brought together people from many
different parts of Leinster (a provence of Ireland).
Liquid had events taking place at venues in
Meath, Dublin and Kildare. The DJ's at Liquid
included Darren Flynn, Sonic Trip (www.sonictrip.net)
and Jay Pidgeon alongside Liam and two resident
DJs Barry Bolger and Kenn Cromwell. After graduating
from Ballyfermot College in 2000 (www.bcfe.ie),
Liam furthered his studies in HNDR (higher national
diploma in radio) and graduated with a distinction
in Radio and Media Production. During his time
at Ballyfermot, Liam presented an Irish Dance
music programme on www.emeraldradio.com with
the objective of promoting Irish DJ's and their
music. The show was co-hosted with two of Ireland's
most well-known DJ's John Power and Darren Flynn.
The programme broadcasted globally via satellite
TV, short wave radio, and on the Internet where
the programme could be viewed via the studio
web cam. There was a huge response to the show
and Liam was flooded with CD's and Promos from
all over the world. The programme gained Liam
world wide recognition and peaked immediate
interest with the American DJ and Radio Industry.
As his Irish success continued to expand, so
did Liam's international interests. In the summer
of 2002 Liam spent five months living in New
York during the summer of 2002 where he DJ'd
at HMV in Times Square and the Plant Bar, 3rd
street Manhattan, with DJ Wool.
Liam's performance at
the Pulse Party WMC '03 in March 2003 earned
him legendary status, playing back to back with
Manchester's John McKinlay to an overwhelming
crowd response. In addition to his performance,
Liam was a centerpiece in a lengthy article
published in BBM Magazine regarding the Irish
perspective on Miami. Returning to Ireland shortly
after Miami, he continued to pursue production
and was offered the position of Irish Manager
for Pulseradio.net. However, he found the lure
of a larger market more enticing and moved to
London. Once there, Liam was rapidly promoted
up to U.K. Manager of Pulseradio, and immediately
went about the business of recruiting some of
the areas best talent for weekly scheduled shows.
Coming up is the second
annual Miami party dubbed Pulse Party '04: The
Pulse Hotel. Liam is slated to play on Saturday
from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. (echoing his late night
brilliance last year), as is a larger U.K. contingent
of Pulseradio's roster.
As the year rolls on
bigger and better business is on the horizon,
as the force behind Liam and his goals expand
exponentially. Stay tuned to Pulse and liamtaaffe.com
for updates.
